A full denture is made when all natural teeth are missing. This can be made as a substitute for upper teeth, lower teeth, or both.
Partial dentures are made to fill the spaces left by a few missing teeth. Clasps are used, supported by a natural tooth to secure the partial denture in place. Partial dentures can be manufactured with a Acrylic or Chrome frame, your Dental prosthetist can discuss these options with you and give you their recommendations.
Most dentures can be repaired on the day. This may vary depending on the complexity of the repair itself.
The process of having a Denture made
Because our Dentures are custom made there are numerous visits involved leading up receiving your denture. These appointments are crucial to create the best fitting denture.
1. Primary Impressions
Using this impression your Prosthetist will make models of your teeth and also create a custom made impression tray to be used at your next visit.
2. Secondary Impressions
Using your custom made impression tray and a very accurate impression material this impression is used to create the base of your denture, which allows us to get the best fit possible.
3. Bite Registration
Using the accurate models of your mouth, dentures made from dental wax are created. At this point the teeth on the denture are replaced by wax. The Prosthetist will work with you to create your natural most comfortable bite. At this visit you can discuss and select a tooth colour for your denture.
Using all of the information collected it is now time to try in your custom made dentures. At this stage the dentures are made from dental wax and will have your teeth that will be used in your final denture. The try-in stage is important to make sure you are happy with the fit, bite and selected teeth.
5. Fit Denture
At this visit you will be given your denture. The denture will be tried in to ensure it is comfortable, minor adjustments may be necessary. Your prosthetist will provide you with care instructions and off complimentary follow up appointments to review your denture.
